This year was my second visit to Starved Rock and I started from the other end. The first year I went, the expressway took me to the 'end' where it was significantly less crowded, there were more canyons, and more side trails as opposed to one main trail.
This year I started from the beginning by the lodge and the visitor center, which also allowed a visit to a new side town that isn't Ottawa. There was an Indian trading posts and mom+pop sweet shops, including a wine shop and a sweet shop full of fudge and popcorn.
Afterwards, I stopped in Ottawa to play some Pokémon Go and eat. It was overall a very successful day.
